Ook wij, hogeschoolbibliotheken, zullen de gevolgen ondervinden van de voorgenomen BTW verhoging van 12% op boeken. Om maar een paar concrete voorbeelden te noemen: We gaan dit merken in onze bestedingen van collectiebudgetten (ook digitale publicaties vallen onder deze verhoging!) en onze studenten zullen helaas nog meer onkosten krijgen in het verwerven van voorgeschreven literatuur.
De petities boekenpetitie.petities.nl of Boekenprijs: 21% btw, een waardeloos idee – Petitie24.nl staan open voor ondertekening, laten we daar zoveel mogelijk onze stem horen door deze te ondertekenen!

Studenten kopen nu al geen boeken omdat ze te duur zijn en academische bibliotheken zullen nu in tijden van bezuinigingen hun (digitale) collecties verder moeten laten krimen. Dit plan gaat ten koste van cultuur, leesvaardigheid, onderwijs en onderzoek. Een zeer slechte zaak. Bulgarije is het enige land in Europa met een hoog btw-tarief op fysieke boeken.
